Tilted Flower Pots.

Tilted Flower Pots

My latest project has been an ongoing one.  I have a HUGE vision for the space beside our home that was full of tiger lilies.  Full as in the tiger lilies were over running the space and weeds couldn't even grow (not that I wanted weeds).

With the over abundance of tiger lilies came with a perfect breeding ground for ticks.  Every time we would even walk by the tiger lilies last year to turn on the water house, ended in panic. Hundreds (and that might be understating it) of teeny tiny ticks ran up your arms, legs, anything they could get on.

Which later lead me to find a really awesome tip on how to quickly remove those hundreds of fast crawling suckers before they attacked.  Lint Roller.

ANYWAY.  I'm getting side tracked.

Early this spring I decided I did NOT want a repeat of last year.  The lilies had to go.

So I spent weeks trying to get all of the lilies removed.  Carefully removing all of the worms that had gotten entangled in the roots (yeah I have one of THOSE kids, the watching, you better not hurt that worm kind.)

Then another full day removing all of the weeds that decided they would move in now that they could thrive with the lilies gone.

I found this idea off of Pinterest and decided to try it.  There really weren't any written instructions, just a step by step picture.   Easy enough to follow.  Here is the original link I found.  They also painted their pots before they started putting everything together.  I liked the plain brown, so I did not bother.
WHAT YOU NEED:

1 REBAR (about 6ft)
HAMMER
1 LARGER FLOWER POT
4 OR 5 SMALLER POTS (depends on your rebar size)
POTTING SOIL
FLOWERS

1. Drive your rebar into the ground about 2ft with a hammer.  This step is much easier if you wait until after you have a good rain.

2. You are now going to start putting your pots on the rebar using the drainage hole in the bottom. Place your larger pot on the ground, make sure this pot is pretty level on the ground.  Fill it with potting soil close to the brim. The next pot will have to rest on this soil. So make sure it is packed down well.

3. Set your next second pot on the larger already filled pot, Slant it an angle and fill with potting soil.

4. Add flowers to the bottom flower pot, going around the one that is sitting on the soil.

5. Fill the second flower pot with flowers.

6. Place the next flower pot on the rebar, angle it the opposite angle as the previous pot and add flowers. Then continue until you have added desired number of pots and rebar is covered.

A great tip is to add your pots to the rebar to test and make sure that you have enough pots to cover the rebar before you start adding the potting soil.  That will keep you from having too much rebar poking out of the top of the highest pot.
